Are you really curious to know about the basic in and out’s of Digital Marketing? Then this is the right place for you. Start exploring from basic Fundamentals of marketing to how to select your right Niche.
1. Fundamentals of Marketing
You don’t need to be creative to be good at marketing but, being aware of your customer persona will do the job. The more you understand your customer needs, the better you can market your product. Connect with the right customer and start communicating with the right message at the right time in order to reduce the junk or unwanted customers, who are not really interested in your product, but are present in your customer list. This will save a lot of your time as well as effort.
Once you get your right customer, don’t stop there. Start nurturing him/her in such a way that they trust you and even in the future they will come back and buy your product. The trust factor is more important than the product. Even if the customer doesn’t buy your product on the first attempt, no issues as long as he/she trust you. They will definitely purchase from you in near future. But, don’t forget that this can be possible only if they trust you, and also it completely depends on the way you nurture them during the process at different stages of the sales funnel.
“If people like you they will listen to you, but if they trust you, they’ll do business with you ” — ZIG ZIGLAR
Then comes branding. The term branding means a lot to you and your customers. It’s like a win-win situation. Let me explain how. Once you put a lot of effort and build a brand, then you don’t need to put that much effort to get customers later on. The brand brings customers, because people believe in and trust the branded products than the non-branded products. Hence, branding is like a win-win situation for both you and your customer.
Try to create a quality product rather than focusing only on the quantity that sells. It will definitely affect in a long run. The more quality you maintain, the more customers you get. Even word-of-mouth will help for a good product. This will save you money too! For example products like BMW, Audi, iPhone won’t spend much on marketing.
2. Digital Marketing Vs Traditional Marketing
Although the thought process and marketing fundamentals remain the same, both Digital and Traditional marketing differ quite a lot. Let’s take a look at how different they are.
Traditional marketing can be done on TV commercials, Hoardings, Billboards, Newspapers, etc where as Digital marketing is done on various digital platforms as the name suggests like Mobile, Desktop, Apps, Websites, Gaming portals, etc.
We cannot track and analyze the marketing stats at a minute or micro level in Traditional Marketing whereas Digital marketing is such a flexible medium that can allow us to track and analyze each and every moment of the customer journey starting from the ad displayed till the purchase made and even after that. Google Analytics is one of the best tools used by digital marketers to track and analyze the stats of websites and customers.
Traditional marketing will cost a lot than Digital Marketing and the ROI also is much better in Digital marketing. In Digital marketing, we know exactly how much to spend in order to get how many sales wherein Traditional marketing, it is highly impossible to predict.
3. CATT Marketing Funnel
As said by Digital Deepak, wealth is n times CATT. i.e, Wealth = n^CATT
Where n stands for Niche, C stands for Content, A stands for Attention, T stands for Trust, T stands for Transaction.
The Niche is very important because once you choose the wrong niche, it will slowly start impacting the entire process and lead to a waste of time, effort, which may even be money. Hence, choosing the right niche is as important as laying a foundation for a home.
Content is one of the best tools that attract customers and we should put the right content at right time. Content can be of different types like Text, audio, video, image, etc. There is a saying in the market that Content is always a King.
Once you start creating content, then you need to focus on driving Attention through different mediums or platforms like Emails, SEO, Google ads, Facebook ads, etc.
Then build the trust factor in the customers who are interested in your product by being loyal/genuine to them. This can be done by doing personalized communication whenever you reach out to them.
The last and final step is Transaction. Obviously, end of the day you are doing all these to make a sale, right? Without this step, you can’t make wealth. If the customer has reached this step, then it means he/she is more likely to convert. So, you need to be a little more careful and provide extra benefits, offers to customers if required in order to make them take action (purchase/lead).
Hence, the more effectively you use your CATT funnel, the more wealth you will make.
4. Integrated Digital Marketing Framework
The term Integration means combining different individual things/tactics, to achieve something better than what we can achieve from each one of them. Hence, Integrated Digital marketing means using all the Digital marketing methods to achieve a good strategy than using each one of them. I’ll explain this in the below image.
Here Content Marketing is the center of all the methods which is used in each and every step of the process. We start with running Paid Ads and capture leads on the website. Then using content, we run Email campaigns and nurture them more to convert.
We will also get leads/users to our website through SEO, then we repeat the same process of Email marketing as discussed earlier. Even we get users from social profiles and the same process repeats again. All these processes continue and the leads/customers keep increasing.
The final step is to convert and sell. We can do it again through Email nurturing and content marketing. Hence, each platform will have its own role during this entire journey.
5. Personal Branding
The difference between a personal brand and a normal brand is that a Personal brand is related to the person and a normal brand is related to an organization or a company.
The fact is that people will get connected more to a personal brand than the brand of any company or an organization because of the human touch they get and a feeling of getting connected to a person rather than a company managed by different persons.
Personal brands have a scope to grow bigger than a company. And the sky is the limit to scale up. The best examples are Elon Musk has a bigger brand than his companies Tesla, SpaceX, and Virat Kohli has a bigger brand than some of the cricketing partners like MRF, etc.
You cannot sell your brand to others whereas a company can be acquired by any other person or company. But, you can create your own products or company and influence them a lot than not being a personal brand. Then you can sell those products or companies.
Let me briefly explain to you the Evolution of Personal Branding using the below MassTrust Blueprint created by one of the best Digital Marketers and trainers in the World, Digital Deepak.
Step #1: Learn a skill or subject first if you don’t have any. Also, try to learn something new every day even if you become an expert. Learning is a lifetime process.
Step #2: Work in a Job or do freelancing with skills that you have learned or acquired in the beginning stage for some time.
Step #3: Start writing blogs about what you have learned or experienced by working in a niche.
Step #4: Start doing consultations for Businesses or any individuals. You can do this only if have a good grip of Steps 1, 2, and 3. Don’t jump right away after learning something.
Step 5: Then start Mentoring a group of people with all the experience you have acquired till this stage. This can give you an opportunity to leverage multiple sources of income.
Step #6: Finally, you can start your own Start-up Agency or even a company.
Please try to do each step for at least a few months or a year to get a good grip on that. And then move to the next step. This will build a strong foundation and help you a lot in the coming stages.
6. Niche Selection
I’m going to explain in brief how to select the right niche with the help of the below image.
So, there are 3 things that decide your niche – Talent, Market, and Passion. Having all these 3 will help you get more success and earn more. Lacking any of these will lead you to the wrong niche selection. Hence, first, find what you are passionate about, then check whether you have the relative, required talent. If you have both of them, then do market research to know whether your niche has a good market to earn or not.
If you lack talent, then try to improve your skills and if the market is not that great, then try to change the niche itself or look for some other relevant niche that has market.
Let’s hope all these 6 basics help you in finding your success in Digital Marketing. I’ll be updating this article from time to time and also planning to have in-depth blogs on each one of these topics. Stay tuned to check out. Please share and leave a comment if you liked my work. See you again. Cheers!!
